A Costco Bulk Buy from Alain Brumont, we review the latest vintage of the Chateau Bouscassé Madiran.
60% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc from vines 20 to 100-years-old in Madiran, Gascony in the southwest of France. The wine is vegan-friendly.
The Chateau Bouscassé Madiran has an SRP of $25 but we grabbed it at Costco for just $14.99. $19.99 is the cheapest we could find it anywhere else. It is imported by Wine Situation LLC.
From the bottle:
This site is called "Le Pied de Cote Saint Emilion", and produces a wine that lives up to the best Bordeaux red from the right bank. Located in the famed region of South-West of France, Chateau Bouscassé is the birthplace of Alain Brumont, and his Family Estate. The terroir cover 123 acres of clay and limestone along a cliff. An expressive and opened nose of red berries, pink pepper and a touch of vanilla. Balanced and generous with a long fresh finish. Polished tannins and velvet round palate. Ideal match with all red meats, spicy food. Serve at 62-64F.

We were delighted to see the 2017 vintage of this wine at Costco last year and so we eagerly plucked the 2018 off the shelf on a recent wine run. Let's see if it is as good as we remember.
The 2018 Chateau Bouscassé Madiran opens with a really enticing aroma full of dark fruit and spice plus a little black pepper, cola, leather and vanilla too.
This one is just a baby so give it plenty of time to breathe. Tannic, dense and full of vibrant, rich fruit this is wine to buy a case of and then pop open a bottle every year or so for the next decade as it's sure to be a fascinating (and delicious) ride. It features good balance and great structure along with similar flavors to the nose.
It ends dry, a bit chewy and long. It almost seems a crime to pop and pour it right now as it just keeps getting better and better for several hours after being opened and was even better on day 2.
